GOING THE
DISTANCE (R)
Sorry No Passes
Erin's
(Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly
single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and
breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a
full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once
Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for
his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping
through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is
sure they want it to end. And while Garrett's friends, Box
(Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his
pre-flight calorie cutting and his full-time relationship with
his cell phone, they don't like losing their best drinking
buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin's
high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina
Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an
all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite coasts, the
nay-saying friends and family, and with the help of a lot of
texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might
actually go the distance. Directed by Nanette Burstein (The
Kid Stays in the Picture).

GET LOW (PG13)
Sorry No Passes
Get
Low is inspired by the true story of Felix "Bush"
Breazeale, who attracted national attention when he threw
himself a living funeral party in 1938 in Roane County,
Tennessee. For years, townsfolk have been terrified of the
backwoods recluse known as Felix Bush (Robert Duvall). One
day, Felix rides to town with a shotgun and a wad of cash,
saying he wants to buy a funeral—a "living funeral," in which
anyone who ever had heard a story about him will come to tell
it, while he takes it all in. Sensing a big payday in the
offing, fast-talking funeral home owner Frank Quinn (Bill
Murray) enlists his gentlemanly young apprentice, Buddy
Robinson (Lucas Black), to win over Felix's business. Buddy
discovers that behind Felix's surreal plan lies a very real
and long-held secret that must get out. As the funeral
approaches, the mystery—which involves the widow Mattie Darrow
(Sissy Spacek), the only person in town who ever got close to
Felix, and the Illinois preacher Charlie Jackson (Bill Cobbs),
who refuses to speak at his former friend's funeral—only
deepens. But on the big day, Felix is in no mood to listen to
other people spinning made-up anecdotes about him. From Aaron
Schneider, director of the Academy Award-winning short Two
Soldiers.

THE EXPENDABLES (R)
Barney
Ross (director Sylvester Stallone) is a man with nothing to
lose. Fearless and void of emotion, he is the leader, the sage
and the strategist of a tight-knit band of men who live on the
fringe. The team behind him is made up of Lee Christmas (Jason
Statham), former SAS and a savant with anything that has a
blade; Yin Yang (Jet Li), a master at close-quarter combat;
Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), who has known Barney for ten years
and is a long-barrel weapons specialist; Toll Road (Randy
Couture), a skilled demolitions expert and considered the
intellect of the group; and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), a
combat veteran and an expert in precision sniping who
struggles with his own demons. When the mysterious Church
offers Barney a job no one else would take, Barney and his
team embark on what appears to be a routine mission: overthrow
General Gaza (David Zayas), the murderous dictator of the
small South American island country of Vilena and end the
years of death and destruction inflicted on its people. On a
reconnaissance mission to Vilena, Barney and Christmas meet
their contact Sandra (Giselle Itie), a local freedom-fighter
with a dark secret. They also come to learn who their true
enemy is: rogue ex-CIA operative James Monroe (Eric Roberts)
and his henchman Paine (Steve Austin). When things go terribly
wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave Sandra behind,
essentially giving her a death sentence. Haunted by this
failure, Barney convinces the team to return to Vilena to
rescue the hostage and finish the job he started. And to
perhaps save a soul: his own. Also starring Mickey Rourke.
